Because we are using the income gained from the endowment to provide grants and because most of the income must be reinvested into the endowment, we currently have sufficient funds to contribute only in a small way towards a community organisation's project or initiative. Until our endowment fund is large enough to fund projects, we will grant towards a discrete output that will contribute to achieving a larger outcome.
We raised enough interest from our endowment fund to pay out a grant of $400. Please see our annual report for information about the financial status of our organisation.
This year we will not have sufficient funds to fund projects but we will donate towards a discrete output that will contribute to achieving a broader outcome. Currently our three main interests are as below.
1. Education about litter, the problems with burning plastic, eco-development, the importance of biodiversity, mindful consumerism, green lifestyles, traditional knowledge
2. Improved understanding about our biodiversity through scientific research
3. Planting of rare native trees for shade, nutrient uptake from groundwater and to reduce soil erosion and flooding
The types of outputs we could support (within the grant budget) are as below:
· Water supply projects
· Grass cutting or landscaping (except rare native tree planting as above)
· Projects that are only a temporary, band-aid measure, don't address the cause of the problem and require an endless, continuous input of funds to achieve the goal e.g. clearing invasive vines, rubbish clean-ups

Complete the Grant Application Form. This includes information about:
Also, if you have a financial report, please attach it. If you’re new, there’s no need to attach a financial report.
Email the application form to MoanaFoundation@gmail.com
The closing date for applications is 30th September 2024.
We will notify you the outcome within three weeks.
The grantee is asked to provide a short paragraph on how their project is progressing, where the funds assisted and a financial report showing where their funds were spent plus receipts. We ask that the report be provided within 3 months of the grant being awarded.
Although we will call for applications each year, if we find that none of the applications meet the criteria, we will reintegrate the grant money into the endowment fund or the grant fund and roll it over to the following year.
We publish information on the applications we received on this website but we keep the name of the applicants anonymous. Once we select an application for the award, we make a public announcement including the name of the applicant. On our website, we explain why other applications were not selected, keeping the applicant's names anonymous. If none of the applications were selected, we explain why.
We do not require acknowledgement of the Moana Foundation in relation to a project except on the occasion we publicly announce the award.
