2021 was the first year we awarded our annual small grant to a Cook Islands community organisation. The successful organisation is Matie Ethical Care which received a $400 grant to advertise their next series of permaculture classes and workshops.
Matie Ethical Care was established in 2020 and has the objective to “Improve Cook Islands community stability, resilience, health and promote and support the regeneration of ecosystems and biodiversity.”
They have already held a series of permaculture workshops through 2021.
Their workshops use traditional and modern skills and activities to provide education on soil life, and teach permaculture principles, composting, ecosystem design, growing organics, food forest, the importance of fungi with biodiversity, grafting, marcotting and water motion on the landscape.
